LDK Solar Co Ltd, a world class manufacturer of multicrystalline silicon solar wafer, has inked a three-year silicon wafer supply contract with BP Solar International, Inc, sources reported.

Pursuant to the terms of the agreement, LDK Solar will provide silicon wafers with 435 MW worth of capacity to BP Solar from 2009 to 2011. Meanwhile, BP Solar will provide at least 1,680 tons of polysilicon, which is the raw materials for silicon production, to LDK Solar.

The cooperation is expected to expand the market share of the Jiangxi-based solar technology company in North America, and promote its leading role in the market as well, according to Peng Xiaofeng, chairman and CEO of LDK.

As one of the world's leading solar enterprises, BP Solar designs, manufactures and sells products which use solar power to generate electricity, with manufacturing plants in Australia, India, Spain, the U.S. and China.
